Abstract

Special education is currently a subject of growing interest. This article offers a brief overview of the most relevant aspects to be considered in the field of visual impairment. In this area, it is important to highlight, first, the opportunities for personal development that education provides to individuals affected by total or partial blindness, and second, the professional gratification derived from achieving goals that, for outsiders to this educational specialty, might seem entirely unexpected.

The elements addressed concern the learner, objectives, content, and educational resources in the schooling of students with visual impairments, as well as an outline of the current challenges faced by professionals in this field.
