Abstract

Background: Patients admitted burning units face significant physical, emotional, and social challenges. Music therapy (MT) has emerged as a complementary intervention capable of relieving pain, reducing anxiety, and promoting psychological well-being. Method: A longitudinal qualitative study was conducted with fourteen patients admitted to the Burn Unit of the “Virgen del Rocío” University Hospital in Seville. Semi-structured interviews were conducted before and after the MT intervention, and thematic content analysis was applied. Results: Participants described MT as a useful tool for alleviating pain and improving their emotional state. Improvements were observed in motivation for rehabilitation, perceived social support, and reduced emotional isolation. Sessions with active participation were especially valued. However, limitations were noted due to some patients’ physical or emotional conditions. Conclusions: MT can be an effective therapeutic resource for the psycho-emotional recovery of burn patients. Its implementation in hospital settings may support better adaptation and reduce the negative impact of isolation, although further research is needed to evaluate its long-term effectiveness.
