Early research on school bullying, known as victimization and the terms bullying and mobbing, arise in Norway and Sweden and are developed by Olweus (1978, 1993). Even though there are many investigations in different regions in our country, there are three relevant national studies which have been developed: Defensor del Pueblo 1999/2006, Estudio Cisneros X “Violencia y Acoso Escolar” in 2006 (Piñuel and Oñate, 2007) and Informe del Centro Reina Sofía “Violencia entre Compañeros en la
Escuela” in 2005, by Serrano and Iborra. With this work we aim at developing an epidemiologic study on bullying which
sheds light upon the real situation of primary education schools in Extremadura, from which we still do not have reliable data. Among our objectives we would like to emphasize the following: (1) to analyze the prevalence of different kinds and to determine the effect and type of bullying depending on the gender, the school year, the age and whether the centre has public or private ownership, and (2) to study the characteristics of bullying: school year of those who bully and scenario in which
bullying situations occur.
