Abstract

Rearing practices and behavior problems in children are reported and it was expected that inappropriate rearing practices would bring about noxious effects in children's growth and consequently give rise to both inner and outer behavior problems. In a sample of 200 pupils of both sexes aged 5-18, the independent variables of sex and age of the children, as well as rearing practices of their parents were taken into account in order to check their effect on the dependent variable of the children's behavior problems. The variables were evaluated by means of the questionnaire Child Rearing Practices Report and the Child Behavior Checklist. The results showed when parents use inadequate rearing practice, the children are more likely to show behavior problems, both internal and external. Thus, negative affections predicts external problems, authoritarian control and too mush emphasis on achievement predict internal problems and no-physical punishments predict a higher overal score in behavior problems.
