Abstract

The increasing number of patients in hospitals and health centres suffering from head injuries caused by various types of accidents has generated a growing demand for professionals able to address the psychological sequelae of brain damage. Neuropsychology, as both a basic and applied discipline, addresses these issues. It studies brain–behaviour relationships, highlighting the role of different brain areas in behavioural planning while also examining how behaviour contributes to brain organisation. This paper presents an introduction to neuropsychology, with the aim of providing a general overview that facilitates an initial understanding of the discipline.
