Abstract

Music Psychology is a growing discipline. It has a significant international history and is increasingly expanding its research and practical application in Spain. In this introductory article to the first monograph on Music Psychology published in Spanish, we present a brief conceptualization of this discipline, as well as a brief chronology of its historical evolution, its most relevant milestones, and some characteristics of its target population groups. We dedicate a few words to discuss its presence in Societies and Associations around the world, the main lines of research and application found in the Psychology of Music and the Performing Arts, and, in particular, the emerging trends currently being explored. We then present an annotated summary of the articles in this monograph, prepared/compiled with the contributions of 28 researchers from universities and conservatories across Spain. This allows us to observe and present both the wide variety of topics covered and the potential benefits that further research in this field could have not only on music professionals and students, but also on teachers, people at risk of exclusion, hospitalized patients, and, ultimately, on society as a whole.
