The German city of Jena hosted the 7th Congress of the European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA) from 31 May to 4 June 2000. This small town, located in the federal state of Thuringia, which until just over a decade ago was part of the former German Democratic Republic, is home to a prestigious, centuries-old university where Schiller and Goethe once taught. Considering the significance of these authors, as pioneers of the German literary and spiritual movement Sturm und Drang (storm and stress), in the exaltation of adolescence as a unique and conflictive period, few settings could be more appropriate for hosting a congress of this nature.
