A practical instrument for the assessment of clinical, functional, and social areas in chronic mental patients

Abstract

This paper presents an instrument for the assessment of chronic mental patients, which we regard as the first, and necessary, step toward their rehabilitation and social reintegration. It is not only a clinical tool, but also includes a functional analysis of daily living skills that make self-care and social life feasible, as well as an evaluation of their situation and social environment. We also provide an outline of what we consider to be the main theoretical and organizational guidelines of the field of work in which this form acquires meaning, serving as an implementation instrument for the Rehabilitation Unit of the Miraflores Psychiatric Hospital in Seville.
