.Abstract
The growing concern among some colleagues for integrating their professional work with the needs of the community is examined in light of the relationship between basic science and technology.
An increase in psychological research is proposed which, far from excluding applied intervention, would ground it in an articulated body of knowledge.
Some practical considerations regarding the academic training of psychologists are presented, arising from the foregoing reflections.
