Abstract

The aim of this study was to test the relationship between integrative motivation and motives to practice according to the sex and age. We used a sample of 422 practitioners in fitness programs, tutorials and swimming. Integrated motivation and practical motives were measured. After the differential analysis with respect to sex, boys scored higher on integrated motivation, social affiliation and social recognition. Regarding age, younger participants scored more highly by the image motive, social recognition and development of skills, while the health reason was more valued by the participants between 26 and 36 years. Therefore, this study reiterates the importance of increasing the integrated motivation into in the practitioner to achieve a greater adherence to practice, taking into account the motives of practice according to the characteristics of the practitioners.
