Karen Horney, a pioneer of the broken with freudian model for Women’s Psychology and for the healthy and neurotic Human Development

Abstract

Karen Horney represents a controversial character in the history of psychoanalysis. While opposed to the biological and organismic points of view on Freud's theories, she defended an interactional model where the cultural aspects were mainly considered to explain the keys for human development and also women's psychology. In our article we will try to review these ideas as well as to honor one of the main author responsible for the so called cultural psychoanalysis or neopsychoanalysis.
