The Burnout Syndrome in education: a differential approach

Abstract

This study describes the levels of teacher burnout and analyses the relationships among the different syndrome dimensions, evaluated with the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and social and demographic variables such as sex, age, experience, etc. The sample included 91 teachers from three different levels: primary and secondary schools and university. The results show moderate to low levels of burnout, although in some dimensions the number of teachers included is a high percentage of the sample. Data also show the influence of social and demographic variables such as sex, age/years of experience, and level in which the person teaches on different dimensions of burnout.
