Abstract

The importance of the conflict on which mediation acts should not be ignored. The pattern and levels followed by the conflict are defined within a functional perspective. The effects of the conflict on the working group are revised. A summary table ofexplanatory theories is used to formulate a simpler model in which the mediator can efficientl y integrate his/her techniques and knowledge. A distinction between «conflict» and «problem», considered as two separate states which dictate the forms of intervention, is also suggested.
