This work reviews several factors commonly involved in menstrual disorders and depressive symtomathology in the first quarter of pregnancy. We start with a reference to the psychoanalitic considerations of female identity and its consequences on menstruation and pregnancy. Secondly, we describe their psychobiologic components and the increasing importance of psychological factors in order to understand and explain Dysmenorrhea and Premenstrual Tension (PMT), as well as the depressive symptomathology in pregnancy and the relationship between both kinds of disorders.
