Abstract

This study examines the effect of certain variables on the processing of written information. Variables considered include reading fluency, rhetorical text structure, the task performed on the text, and prior knowledge. The study involved a sample of 56 eighth-grade students. The results indicate that all variables exert influence, with differential effects depending on the task. The importance of reading fluency is highlighted.
