Who’s the subject in The JEAB?

A descriptive analysis of research, published in the JEAB from 1975 to 2005, reveals that an important part of it has developed under the following characteristics: a) The sex of the subjects is not reported or they are largely male b) The age of the animal subjects is often omitted or is approximated. In some cases it is considerably increased because of the experimental periods without any consideration to this. In the case of human beings, age is matched with the subjects’ characteristics, “indicator” of the age. There are no considerations to the effect of experimental variables in relation to age, and c) The naivety or the experimental history of the subjects is sometimes not reported and is rarely part of the findings. Given these characteristics, the need to beware of simplistic and uncritical extrapolation of results of animal research to human behavior, it is exhorted.
