General Systems Theory was developed by L. Bertalanffy as an attempt to address complex systems whose behaviours could not be understood through the common practice of fragmenting reality into separate parts.
Since then, it has found numerous applications in fields such as biology, sociology, and business, among others.
In line with this theory, there has been growing interest in the diagnosis and treatment of individual pathology, understood as a symptom of the family system rather than of the individual alone.
These topics were addressed at the Fourth Family Therapy Conference held in Vitoria.
