In this paper the influence of sex and age on empathy, considered from a multidimensional perspective and evaluated through the Interpersonal Reactivity Index of Davis, theoretically and empirically is analyzed. A sample of 556 adolescents and youngs is utilized. The results indicate that females score significantly higher than males on fantasy, sympathy and personal distress. Moreover, the scores on perspective taking, fantasy and sympathy increase progressively with age. Implications and suggestions for future research were discussed.Downloads
