Abstract

The publication in 2004 of the book Psychology and Gender, edited by Ester Barberá-Heredia and Isabel Martínez-Benlloch, and its emphasis on the necessity of incorporating gender as a category of analysis in any psychological research, has had a significant impact on the feminist academic psychology in Spain. The legacy of this work has continued through successive meetings held in 2018, 2020, and especially in 2023, where several colleagues, some of whom co-authored the original work, shared knowledge and examples of best practices with a similar purpose. This monograph is the result of those meetings and, following the twentieth anniversary of that work, aims to revisit some debates and areas of interest in gender psychology, highlighting achievements and pending challenges. It is proposed, as in the original work, from a gender perspective in both research and professional practice, to help overcome biased views that often disadvantage women. Continued research and knowledge transfer are necessary to overcome these biases towards a psychology that better addresses the challenges of inequality that persist in our society, and this is what the eleven contributions included in this issue aim to contribute to.
