Abstract

This investigation has aimed to discover the relationship between the incidence of anxiety symtomatology and the acculturation attitudes adopted by immigrant populations.
For this purpose, a sample of 43 immigrants from the Province of Seville was taken, selected randomly from a range of immigrant associations. The sample comprised two diverse groups: Moroccans (17) and Latin-Americans (26). The information necessary for the study was gathered in personal interviews during which two questionaires were administered: the State/Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, & Lushene, 1988) and the Acculturation Attitudes Questionaire (Navas et al., 2004). The results obtained showed no significant relationship between anxiety (state and trait) and acculturation strategies. Nevertheless, a slight increase in the anxiety state of the Moroccan population was observed.
