Family Therapy in the treatment of addictions

This paper presents a brief historical review on the role of family therapy in the treatment of addictions. Following the proposal of Rolland & Walsh (1996) discusses in detail the models that focus on solving problems and intergenerational models. The purpose of the article is to show the contributions of the different perspectives and contribute to more inclusive approaches in family treatment of addictions. In this line concludes with a review of studies of effectiveness of family therapy and proposes future directions for research.
