This research provides a description of the population who have recently had a lung transplant in Andalusia. An assessment on the quality of life and the psychological wellbeing of these patients is shown, as well as on the variables which have an influence on the psychological dimension of health status. The sample consists of 29 patients who have had a transplant at the Reina Sofía hospital in Córdoba, and who have been assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) and the SF-36 Health Survey (health status perception). The psychological assessment reveals the absence of clinical symptoms of depression and a low prevalence of clinical problems of anxiety. The results showed an improvement in the health status perception after the transplant. Furthermore, it is observed that the patient’s involvement in the recovering process, the right adherence to treatment and the fact of being a member of different patients associations affect positively on the psychological dimension of the quality of life of those who have had a lung transplant.
