Abstract

The aim of this study is to extend previous research which has analyzed the relationship between religious beliefs and prejudice. This research included two samples: Muslims (N=210) and Christians (N=244). The variables studied were as follows: beliefs (Brigham, 1993), anti-immigrant and pro-immigrant judgements (Katz & Hass, 1988), positive and negative emotions (Stephan y Stephan, 1985), discrimination, linking (Tropp, 2003), favourability (Tropp y Pettigrew, 2005), internal and external motivation to respond without prejudice (Plant & Devine, 1998). Religious fervour and linking to the community of origin have also been considered. The analysis shows that the used instrument is valid and the levels of prejudice are moderate in both samples. In addition, a significant and positive correlation between the religious fervour and the different measure of prejudice was observed.
