Sometimes the psychological training is not entirely effective. If we work with an athlete in order to optimize the performance and we design a program of psychological training regardless of their limitations, it may not get the expected benefits. We present a working model in which the psychological training would go into the background and would be implemented only when the athletes’ beliefs that do not limit their performance. The work of the sport psychologist in most cases should focus on changing beliefs that limit performance and leave the psychological training for specific cases where such beliefs do not interfere.
