.Abstract
The conceptual framework of Social Cognitive Theory, primarily derived from the proposals of Albert Bandura (1986), has represented a substantial advance in understanding the motivational mechanisms that affect human actions. This contribution stems mainly from going beyond the explanatory and predictive aspects of behaviour and adding a more operative component aimed at improving the outcomes of such behaviour. This conceptual framework allows us to understand how individuals influence their motivations and actions through a series of self-regulation mechanisms, including self-efficacy and goal setting (Bandura, 1986).
