Abstract

Suicide is one of the main public health problems worldwide. The aim of this article is to think and discuss about the concept of suicide. It discusses its definition and presents the difference between suicide and suicide attempts as two distinct social and clinical groups. The conceptual implications, in the clinical understanding, and the practical implications, in the quantification, research and prevention of the suicidal phenomenon are analyzed. It concludes with the need to incorporate a contextual-phenomenological approach to suicide.
