The burnout syndrome among prison workers: A theoretical review of research

Abstract

In the present review we will proceed with the theoretical terminology and comprehensive approach which is called burnout syndrome in prison context. With the aim of addressing this study, we intended to, first, deepening the terminology and conceptual origin of burnout. Secondly, we will review the etiological models, assessment tools used in research and individual factors, situational and relational affecting their appearance. It was subsequently conducted a tour of the research that addresses burnout in the prison context, stressing the limited work done in Spain in comparison with the rest of the international scientific community that maintains a line of knowledge about burnout among workers with prison order to dignify their work, providing them with better resources organizational and individual. Finally reflects on the need for a better understanding of the variables involved in the burnout of a longitudinal research design used to develop prevention and intervention programs because the existing are not delivering the expected results.
